Welcome to the Paper Pumpkin Pop-Up Blog Hop! We are all fans of this monthly crafting kit and want to share with you our enthusiasm for this box of creative fun! This is my first time hopping with this group, however, I am sure it won’t be the last since I am a huge Paper Pumpkin fan!
The beauty of the Paper Pumpkin kit is that you can follow the directions provided in the kit to make the projects as they were designed, or use the supplies as a starting point and let your own creativity run wild.
On this hop, we will be sharing many alternate ideas with you on how to use the September kit called ‘Frights and Delights.’
I like to start out making at least 1 of each of the planned projects in a kit first. I just haven’t bought any candy yet, so I thought I would use one of Paper Pumpkin’s images. They look better with candy in them than empty. Aren’t they cute little packages?? I’ll be using them for secretaries and teachers at the schools I sub at and where my son goes.
Then, I see where my own creative juices flow…here is what happened this month…
I have made up my mind to do more scrapbooking and have therefore challenged myself to make at least 1 scrapbook page with the kit contents each month. For this, I need to add a 12 x 12 piece of card stock, which is in Rich Razzleberry today. Normally, I would use the included cards to back the photos, yet since this kit did not have cards, I did have to grab some other card stock as well. In this case, some Pumpkin Pie, Mango Melody, and Cajun Craze. Ideally, I would like to use as much from the kit as I can to show you that you can do it too. Also, this month, to have a change of pace for non Halloween folks, I added in a fall stamp set called Colorful Seasons stamp set and Seasonal Layers thinlits.
I used 2 of the cellophane bags and cut them on one side. Then I did a fan fold and adhered the sides together after tying them in the middle with the bakers twine from the kit. I made the bakers twine long enough so that I could tie it in a bow around the stems of the leaves.
The leaves are stamped in Rich Razzleberry, Cajun Craze, and Crushed Curry. The leaf overlay is cut from Mango Melody. I used glue dots on the back of the leaves to stick them to the cellophane fan circle.
For the title, I embossed one of the flower thinlits onto the silver paper that was in the box. I just used a scrap of it. I thought they came out pretty cool. I was attempting to cut the flower and instead it did this. I liked it, so I didn’t run it through the Big Shot again. I also used the Stitched Framelits to make the ovals around the title. I use these A LOT! I absolutely love them! You can also see that I used Rich Razzelberry ink to stamp a bunch of leaves all over the back ground to give it some extra pizzazz and add to the falling leaves…
After making the scrapbook page, I thought I should make a card using as much from the kit as I could. I needed to add cardstock for the base of the cards, yet, the rest is from the kit itself. These 2 cards came together pretty quick!
This first one, I used Gorgeous Grape cardstock and cut 1 inch off the bottom of the top part of the card. Then I used the spider web cellophane bag and cut it open to make a cover for the top of the card. I used the small and large spider on the same stamp block to stamp the bottom border. Then used the silver pumpkin to adhere behind the jack-o-lantern. I stamped the sentiment and tied some of the bakers twine around the fold to disguise it.
The only thing I don’t like about this card is that you can see the glue dots that I used to stick the bag to the front. Not sure what else I could have done.
The next card I like better…
I used a piece of Granny Apple Green card stock and Whisper White cardstock. I used the Gorgeous Grape ink for the stamping after putting almost all the stamps onto 1 block to make a word and picture collage. I saw somebody on a facebook site do something similar for a scrapbook page background and was reminded that I had once done that for Christmas cards from Paper Pumpkin a few years ago. I love using that idea when you have lots of little stamps!
I used the same block of stamps to stamp the background with Versa Mark ink. Then I added the silver circle behind the ghosts eyes to give it that eerie look. I cut off part of the tag and edged it with the Gorgeous Grape like I did the whole card and the worded rectangle. Gotta love distressing! I tied some of the black and silver bakers twine around the fold and tied a bow. I used dimensionals for the back of the tag and the ghost. Simple and quick card.
There you have it. 3 fairly quick and easy alternates to a very fun paper Pumpkin kit. Did you have to go Halloween? No, you did not. Could you if you wanted to? Naturally! Paper Pumpkin is for anyone and any level of crafting that wants to get products you can’t buy anywhere else.
