Christmas in July

Hello! Long time no posting…

My son and I have been on vacation “Glamping” in Wyoming with my sister, her husband, and grandson! We got to see the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone Park, and Jackson! What a fun time! I am looking forward to scrapbooking it!

Anyway, I am back on track and ready to create! First card up, is a Christmas in July card for my very first Card Challenge…HIMCR…Hiding In My Craft Room is the blog that I did this for and have been wanting to for a long time! I am excited! I even went out of my usual comfort zone and used a new technique! I spritzed! I know, you are thinking that is old news…for me, it is not. I have done it in a class and admired it from afar…this time I did it for myself!

I have forests and outdoors on the brain from our trip, so to come home to the new Thoughtful Branches stamp set, that I ordered before I left, was sooo perfect!! I am also a lover of sunsets, having grown up in Arizona! I thought I would see if I could create a winter forest sunset…I think it turned out pretty good!

I used Emerald Envy as my card base. I used Rich Razzlebery as my layer. Then on the Whisper White, I used my spritzers with alcohol and ink drops from Rich Razzleberry and a second spritzer of Elegant Eggplant. The sun was created with a dauber using Crushed Curry. Then I used a dauber of Night of Navy to darken the edges and make the night time look like it was coming. Over that, I stamped my trees. The back layer of trees is the second stamping of the first without re-inking. A favorite technique of mine!

I started to fold in the corner, but chose to use the Decorative Label instead to cut off the corner so that my sentiment could show. I stamped the sentiment, from Reason for the Season, in Staz On white in the upper right corner and added a rhinestone for sparkle. I added a bit of white organza ribbon across the bottom tied in a knot.

The other technique I used and love for winter scenes, is to use a white gel pen to create a snowy look on the branches. I learned that last year from somebody on Pinterest. It’s a brilliant idea and gave my forest just the right winter look. It looks like a peaceful wintery forest that I would love to walk through!

I found some other challenges, so I am taking the plunge! Wish me luck!
